For this week’s SundaySupper we needed to select a recipe based on a song, any song we like. Well of course I had to head to my “roots”, New Jersey and one of my all time favorite musicians, Mr. BBRRRRRUUUUUUUUUCE Springsteen. While it is one of his lesser known songs it seems to me it is frequently available in jukeboxes across the country. Thunder Road. It’s a great song, one of my favorites in fact and perfect to sing at the top of your lungs while alone in your car or at one of the previously mentioned establishments across the country.
Listen to the classic version of Thunder Road Here OR Listen to Thunder Road Here Live from NYC
My mind went right to a cocktail and in keeping with the tone, I selected The Dark and Stormy. Purists claim there is only one rum to use and that the lime juice is not included. Always a rebel…LOL… I selected the rum based on the really cool label and added a good dose of fresh lime juice. I encourage you to make a drink and sit back and listen to a Bruce classic on your porch {or favorite establishment}. If you are ready…” come take my hand, We’re riding out tonight to case the promised land,
Oh-oh Thunder Road oh Thunder Road” Enjoy the drink and the music.

I just moved, and the first time we had friends over someone brought Kracken rum and ginger beer! I felt really guilty for all the sugar in that ginger beer. The Kracken bottle/label is so nice!
I know!! That’s why I had to try it also!
You know, I haven’t had a Dark and Stormy in quite some time! But…anything with ginger beer definitely gets my seal of approval!
This sounds yummy. I love rum and lime juice so I’ll have to try it with the ginger beer.
I am not usually a big fan of ginger beer but REED’s was really tasty and the dark rum made a big difference in the flavor.
Krayl I think I’ll have one without an umbrella.
Cindy – it is ready and waiting for you. Is it 5 o’clock yet?
I would just love to sit on the porch with one of these and listen to Bruce Springsteen right now. This sounds so yummy and refreshing!
I’m loving the cocktail offerings this week SO.MUCH. This dark ‘n stormy looks mighty refreshing – I’m feeling pretty thirsty right now! It’s almost 11 pm, this would be the perfect drink to lull me to sleep!
Dark & Stormy’s are good anytime of day! Glad you are enjoying them.
I need to find some ginger beer. We love our rum, and this sounds amazing!
This cocktail sounds refreshing. Similar to a Moscow Mule I published earlier this year. I don’t listen to much Springsteen, but I have a lot of respect for the man. Seems very down-to-earth.
Maybe this will change that?? Perhaps??
Never had a Dark n Stormy but will have to try soon! Looks and sounds so good!
Don’t plan on drying anywhere after drinking one. Best to sit on the porch for a while… Enjoy
Any drink inspired in BS is good for me! We all had such a crush on him in HS, I love that you brought this song back to my mind!
YUM! that looks so refreshing 🙂
Oooh, that is so pirate grog! Love!
Never heard of a Dark & Stormy, but now I want one!
BRUUUUUUUUUCE!
This sounds refreshing–definitely need to try it! BTW the Boss goes with just about everything!
Never had this before, but I love how “dark and stormy” it looks. I’m definitely making this soon. I love that it includes ginger beer. Yum!
I love Dark & Stormies…and always add lime juice ;). Fun inspiration, Krayle!
I haven’t had a Dark & Stormy cocktail yet. Looks like it is one to try soon.
A new cocktail to try!! I am in love with ginger beer right now too!!
I think the rebel way sounds better anyway! Delicious!
I’ll take lime with almost anything!
Usually is!
Moscow Mules are currently my favorite beverage. I always have ginger beer on hand so I have to try this!
Megan: I love the mugs the Mule comes in though… I bet you could do the Dark and Stormy in there too!
I LOVE dark and stormy’s! Guess I’ll need to break out my Bruce CD’s while enjoying one and I always add lime to mine. 🙂
From one Jersey girl to another, let me just say: BRUUUUUUUUUUUCE!
I’ll have to make this cocktail for my brother. He’s a giant Springsteen fan.
Wow, a great recipe, I love the name of the drink!
A new cocktail to sample!!! I’ll listen to some Bruce while sipping 🙂
