What can be more fun than a picnic in the park? A picnic in the park with an opera show and a tablescape competition of course – well at least fun for me anyway. At the recent Opera Tampa Picnic In the Park event held in Curtis Hixon park, for the first year they included a table decorating competition to the event, when I heard of it I knew I had to be there. But wait, there is a challenge here. Due to the location we were restricted – No glass, No china or NO ceramic. Yes, the girl with a plate closet and numerous sets of glassware was limited to using only plasticware.
No need to fear, thanks to a little creativity and a few cans of gold spray paint, New Autumn Chic was born. What turned out to be gorgeous tablescape that truly glistened in the sunset that day. Using fresh gourds and Indian corn sprayed gold as the main theme and accented by 3 vases of varying height {unbreakable of course} filled with various types of eucalyptus mixed with purple flowering ornamented kale, the center of the table was created.
Touches of golden mini gourds accent each placesetting on top of gold chargers and pale linen napkins. This table could easily be re-created for a Fall Harvest or Thanksgiving table using your own china and crystal stemware.
I painted gold details on the “Crystal Stemmed Glassware” for each guest – who also dressed in them colors to complete the table.
And the winner is….. New Autumn Chic!! What did we win? Tickets to dinner, a future show AND jester hats – which we had to wear during the show!
What a fun night -I can’t wait to next year!!
