Cheese Please. A Day Filled #CookingWithCabot

Last week I was invited to one of my favorite spots in Tampa, The Epicurean Hotel, to taste, learn and cook with the tasty cheeses of Cabot Creamery. I joined a group of friends, local bloggers and Sunday Supper Founder, Isabel Reis Laessig for a day sure to be filled with cheesy deliciousness.

The morning began with breakfast bar complete with yogurt and fresh fruit provided by Florida Milk.  It was loaded with toppings like granola, shredded coconut and a selection of Divine Chocolate – It was before 10 am but it’s it always time for Dark Chocolate with Pink Himalayan Salt or maybe you prefer Dark Chocolate and Mint! Either way everyone wins!

After a few cups of coffee and chatting with fellow attendees we had a front row seat as Chef Jimmy went live on Facebook to create a tasty bite, BBQ Teriyaki Vegetable and Cheddar Rolls, they are a fun twist on traditional Japanese Negimaki and perfect for your next cocktail party!

Back at the stove Chef Jimmy works with Lodge Cast Iron selection of cookware and whips up an another creamy cheese recipe. I LOVE great cookware that looks great too and had no idea Lodge made a line of enamel pots – did you know??

Next course, and a complete must have for a snowy weekend, was Tomato Basil Mac and Cheese created by Chef Jimmy Kennedy and served by the smiling Sunday Supper Founder, Isabel Reis Laessig.

After two amazing demos we moved to lunch at Elevage with the group to share a family style meal complete with THE most incredible tomato soup with mini grilled cheese. Heaven!

To complete the day – a cheese board creation “contest”. With so many tasty options I would say we were all winners!

Seasonal decorating of private homes + gatherings is my passion. I have even been told that creating personalized environments is my “special gift”. I LOVE it and intend to keep creating these for my clients but I started thinking…

Mary’s Maine Bars l #OXOGoodCookies

Cooler days have me craving warm beverages, the cozy flavors of cinnamon, nutmeg + spice and getting back into the kitchen. But you know any time I am in the kitchen it is time for a get together with friends. The perfect excuse to host a tea party and bake up a batch of Mary’s Maine Bars.

Tea Party Menu

::  ::  ::

Variety of Hot Teas

Smoked Salmon + Dill Tea Sandwiches

Cucumber + Butter Tea Sandwiches

Mary’s Maine Spice Bars

Yes, cooler weather alone is reason enough bake but when I learned about Cookies For Kids’ Cancer and the partnership between Dorie Greenspan + OXO I had to roll up my sleeves and dust off my apron.

“Cookies for Kids’ Cancer was founded by two OXO employees when their 2-year-old son was diagnosed with childhood cancer in 2007. Larry and Gretchen Witt pledged to support the funding of research for safer, more effective treatments for children battling cancer. With the help of 250 volunteers, Gretchen baked and sold 96,000 cookies, raising more than $400,000 for research.”

Each year, OXO continues to support the organization by donating $100,000 to Cookies for Kids’ Cancer. This year OXO is also working with bloggers to showcase cookie recipes and will donate $100 per blog post in support of the cause. OXO is highlighting cookies from Dorie Greenspan’s new book, Dorie’s Cookies, which features over 200 recipes from classics to brownies to savory cookies.

With the help of my OXO baking tools making Mary’s Main Bars was a breeze! I loved working with both the Glass 3 Qt Baking Dish with Lid and the Glass 2 Qt Baking Dish with Lid. Each is made from BPA-free borosilicate glass and can withstand extreme temperature changes. Generous handles and sloshproof lids make moving full dishes easier, and the clean, elegant design means you can take them from the oven directly to the family table.

And the Brownie Spatula made cutting and serving the bars easy and the perfect size for my tea party.

However, what I did not expect is how much I really enjoyed using the Illuminating Digital Hand Mixer! No joke. Who would have thought a light on the front of a blender would be that useful!! “With a light to guide you, OXO On Illuminating Digital Hand Mixer includes intuitive digital controls to steadily increase or decrease speed. When you’re finished, the on-board beater clip, wrap-and-secure cord, and flat, stable base allow for compact, upright storage.”

For a step-by-step demo of the Mary’s Maine Bar recipe, you can watch my video tutorial below. Subscribe to my YouTube Channel and never miss a recipe or design idea! {It’s free!}

Disclaimer Statement :: This post is being sponsored by OXO in a partnership with Cookies for Kids’ Cancer {OXO will generously donate $100 in my name during the program to reach their goal of $100,000 commitment}. I did NOT receive any compensation for this post, I received OXO baking tools to help me create Mary’s Main Bars by working smarter not harder.

Krayl’s Spring Seasonal Home Box Reviews + A’s to your Q’s

This spring I launched my first product offering and a long time dream of mine, a Seasonal Home Box Membership, to my delight it has been a hit with busy women across the U.S.! Delivered right to your door, filled with seasonal home decor items, my Seasonal Home Box is perfect for homemakers who are looking for perhaps not a full room makeover, but know that a few well chosen touches can make a huge difference in their environment and make them feel happier.

Seasonal Home Box - SPRING 2016 - Seasonal decor delivered to your door just in time for the season 1000x

Friends, family and fans commented on how great the idea was, how “no one is doing anything like this” and “it’s a perfect offering for you brand”.  While I loved all the positive comments, I also received many questions like; “What exactly is in the box?”, “What if I don’t like what is in the box?”, “What if the items don’t fit my style?”, “Can I send this as a gift instead?”. All fantastic questions, that got me thinking about how I can best explain the concept as well as relieve all your concerns about trying the Seasonal Home Box Membership, after all this box is designed to make your life easier not harder right? Right!

The Summer Box is now shipping. Ready to sign up? Learn more about the Seasonal Home Box here.

Need a few more questions answered, keep reading.

Seasonal Home Box - SPRING 2016 - spring pillow case - green candlesticks 1000x

Seasonal Home Box - SPRING 2016 - grey and white linen dish towel with grey ribbon in box 1000x

So let me begin with my response to the most asked questions –

What if the items in the Seasonal Home Box don’t match my style or existing decor?

I understand we all have different tastes and although my goal is to select decor items that will add a seasonal pop to your existing decor rather than completely disrupt your current style, I want you to feel 100% happy with the products and having them in your home. And so that is guaranteed, I am altering my return policy. Going forward once you receive your Seasonal Home Box you will have 3 days to notify me of your return and ship it back at no charge for a refund of the purchase price minus a styling + processing fee of $20.

The returned box must contain all shipped items to receive the refund.

What if I only love a few of the items in the Seasonal Home Box?

You fall in love with four of the say six items in the box and don’t want to send them back but also aren’t in love with the other two? Rather than sending them back – think of this as a bonus gifting service! Spread the seasonal home joy with friends, family and neighbors. Wrap up the yellow pillow case that doesn’t quite fit your home and send it to your sister for her birthday – it’s perfect for her taste. Place the paper cocktail napkins in a gift bag, pair it with a bottle of wine and bring is as a hostess gift to your neighbors dinner party. We all need special thoughtful gifts from time to time and now you don’t have to run out last minute to grab it, another time saver in your busy schedule.

The Summer Box only available until June 15th – Ready to sign up? Learn more about the Seasonal Home Box here.

Need a few more questions answered, keep reading.

Seasonal Home Box - SPRING 2016 - candles with grey ribbon - grey and white linen dish towel - gold accent stickers 1000x

I love the Seasonal Home Box Membership idea but I what if I wanted to give it as a gift rather than keep it myself. What are my options?

I LOVED this question because it was something I had not even considered as a possibility but is an absolutely perfect use of this special offering. Going forward before each shipment you will be asked where you would like to have the Seasonal Home Box shipped. You can decide to keep it yourself or send it as a gift to a friend as a housewarming gift, you choose! It’s a perfect client gift, bridesmaid thank you gift, Mother’s Day, birthday gift or simply a Thank You For Being You gift.

Isn’t that fantastic! I am so excited to be able to offer this new option to you – thank you Mary for asking for it!

I hope these new policies and options help you feel confident in joining my Seasonal Home Box membership however, if you continue to have questions please visit the FAQ page for more answers, or feel free to email me krayl {@} kraylfunch {dot} com and I will respond or if needed we can jump on a call to answer them all.

Imagine the perfect home accents delivered to your door, arriving just in time for each season, to refresh and renew your decor. I am beyond excited to announce my first product a seasonal home subscription boxis finally here to make keeping your home beautiful all year-long easier than ever!

Krayl Funch Entertaining and Lifestyle Expert announces a seasonal subscription box delivered to your door 1000x top

In my 15+ years of working with private clients I have asked myself many times, how can I share this same experience with more women who deserve to love their homes as much as possible. More women who don’t have extra time to search out the perfect items but appreciate them in their homes. Homemakers who are looking for perhaps not a full room makeover, but know that a few well-chosen touches can make a huge difference in their environment and make them feel happier.

Changes like adding new guest towels + organic lavender soap to your bathroom, replacing winter couch pillows with textured linen Spring covers, switching out tired doormats for a new welcoming version to greet guests at the door, adding fresh-cut flowers to a hallway table or refreshing garden planters with beautiful seasonal blooms. These changes can be small but can have a profound impact on our feelings about our surroundings and ourselves.

Chocolate Triple Chip Cookies #cookieswap

Christmas Cookie Recipe Swap via @AnAppealingPlan

If you have been on this site before you may have noticed that desserts, and really sweets in general, are not really my thing. Even in my new book, An Appealing Plan, you only find a handful of dessert recipes in the entire book. Ask me for a reccomendation for a savory tart or a cocktail, I’ve got a list of recipes to pull from, but sweets I really have to dig to pull them out.

However, it is the holiday season and that means cookies a plenty – plus I just can’t resist a good old fashion cookie swap, so when I recently saw an article talking about the cookie swap hosted by Julie I figured this I could do. One recipe, one blog post, and it had to be a real cookie recipe – “no balls or bars allowed”.

I was thrilled when my partner in the swap Sandy Hoopes of Everyday Southwest sent a favorite of mine, a chocolate chip cookie recipe! Great minds think alike it turns out because the only cookie recipe I make on a regular basis is a chocolate chip as well and that is what I sent her also!

The recipe needed very little adjustment and as you can see, it turned out a tasty morsel for sure!

Chocolate Overboard Cookies

  • 1 ¼ cups unsalted butter, softened
  • 2 cups granulated sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 2 teaspoons pure vanilla extract
  • 3 cups all-purpose flour
  • ¾ cup cocoa powder, Dutch process (w/ alkaline**)
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • 1 ½ cup white chocolate chips
  • 1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips
  • 1 cup milk chocolate chips

Preheat oven to 350 degrees.

In a large bowl, beat the butter and sugar together until fluffy. Beat the eggs into the mixture one at a time. Stir in the vanilla.

In a separate bowl, combine the flour, cocoa powder, baking soda and salt. Divide the dry ingredients into thirds then, blend into the butter mixture a third at a time, do not over mix. Fold the white, semi-sweet and milk chocolate chips into the mixture.

Drop spoonfuls onto a parchment lined cookie sheet. Bake 8 – 9 minutes.

Makes 24 cookies.

{Sandy provided this special note with her original recipe}
**Dutch process cocoa powder helps leaven the cookies to make them light and airy. I use E.Guittad Cocoa Powder, but King Arthur has a Dutch processed cocoa powder, as well. Hershey’s Cocoa powder is NOT Dutch processed but their “Special Dark” is a mixture of natural and Dutch processed.

Thank you again Sandy for providing the delicious recipe!! Read more about  Everyday Southwest on her blog.
